How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Notes:  Hmmm, there's a lot to say about this one.  First, the basic set is 72 cards. Hobby 
packs contain three 9-card puzzles numbered 73-99, and they are sometimes included 
with the basic set.  Retail packs contain a single 9-card puzzle (same as cards 91-99 
Hobby) numbered 21-29 (which can be confused with the regular cards in the set that 
have those numbers). Sometimes the "basic hobby sets" will offer cards 1-99, but the 
usual distribution will be cards 1-72.  The "basic retail set" may be marketed as the 
same 72 cards, because these cards are found in both types of packs and boxes, or it 
could be offered with 88 cards including the more-common-than-common puzzle cards, 
Extreme Grinch cards, and retail checklist.

Hobby packs also have a First Day Issue set of 99 cards, one-per-pack, but the puzzle 
cards are less common there as well.  Retail packs have Extreme Grinch cards at one-per-
pack, and they are the same as the EG cards found in Hobby packs at 1-per-ten-packs.  
So don't see the distribution numbers for the Hobby edition and assume a higher value 
for the Extreme Grinches; they're more common than commons in the retail packs.  
Next, the four checklists in the Hobby edition are chase cards, while the single checklist 
for the Retail version is not.  There is no Hobby checklist CL4.  The Ray Goudey 
autographed cards appear to be showing up more frequently than other artist-signed 
cards, versus the assumed number of cards signed. Some of the auto cards are numbered 
to 750 and others (even when it's the same card number) are not. Thanks much to

Hobby Box: 24 packs of 7 cards + 2 puzzle cards + 1 First Day card.
  Common sets: approx. 2.19 per box if collation were perfect.
  Puzzle sets: approximately 1.78 per box.
  First-Day sets 1-99: 1 in 4.83 boxes, on average.
Retail Box: 25 packs of 7 cards + 1 puzzle card + 1 Extreme Grinch card.
  Common sets (72 plus checklist): approximately 2.40 per box.
  Puzzle sets: approximately 2.78 per box.
  Extreme Grinch sets: approximately 4.17 per box.
