Notes: The artwork for these sets was identical, painted by Norman Saunders.  The 1968 and 
1972 sets featured white-back peel-off stickers, 2-1/2" x 3-1/2", "Printed in USA," while the 
1970 U.K. AB&C  stickers were  2.2" x 3.2" with tan backs, but only 84  variations in 
the backgrounds to the initials have  been reported. (This could mean that the U.K. set had 
extra prints for some items, or a few of the variations were absent or poorly distributed. For 
quite a few years, the other series were  mistakenly tagged as 84-sticker sets too.) Thanks 
much to David Paul for the list(s), partly based on careful research by Ron Wilson! We think 
the years of issue are correct,  though Topps Vault auction listings for acetate proof sets 
suggest 1967 for Love  Initials and 1968 for Mod Initials. 

American Card Catalog designation is R705-1. In James Watson's Non-Sports Bible, the 
unnumbered stickers are assigned a number to aid collectors; these are shown below as an 
"index." Watson reports color variations in the Topps stickers, sometimes subtle, but specifi-
cally noting green or purple backgrounds for "35."  Garno (thanks!) also reports a similar item 
for "17" (gold sconce/yellow rays or purple sconce/white rays), most definitely a color variation 
thoughthe artwork is the same. This is speculated as a possible difference between the Love and 
Mod (regular or test) printings, or an ink-color variation within one of the releases.
