The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Topps - 1965
Notes: During the Cold War era of the 1960s Secret Agents were all the rage on both small and big screens. One of the most popular and coolest shows of the mid 1960s was THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Each week viewers would tune in to watch the latest exploits of agents Napolean Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) doing battle against evil THRUSH agents. Veteran actor Leo G. Carroll played Alexander Waverly, who served as the U.N.C.L.E. spy- master. Topps issued a 55 card THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Card Set in 1965. Oh yes....U.N.C.L.E. stands for United Network Command for Law and Enforcement! All cards have white borders with black & white photos from the TV show with facsimile signatures in blue ink on most of the cards. There are no captions on the fronts or backs of the cards. The card backs are numbered and contain black & white puzzle pieces. Cards #1-22 were double printed, versus single printing for cards #23-55. Thanks much to Steve Lillard for the checklist and commentary!
