Puppy in My Pocket Topps - 1995
Notes: The basic set that I have is the one manufactured and marketed by Topps beginning in 1995, and includes 24 basic puppies and cards. Each "sachet" (package) countained one puppy miniature, one card describing the puppy, a collectafile listing 6 of the 24 characters, and a candy dog bone. The Puppy in My Pocket series actually began in England about 1990, and additional puppies (and the same puppies with alternate names) were marketed there and overseas; puppies were distributed as prizes at various fast-food outlets in the U.S., including (at least) Checkers, Dairy Queen, and White Castle. I list the names found in the Topps set and the alternate names, with numbers for the puppies that were not part of the Topps set. Any help in filling out the huge gaps would be appreciated! Thanks to Stefanie Grusczak for the inspiration, to Natalie Gansmoe for early information on the non-Topps (often distributed by Hasbro) puppies, to Antony Miller for the complete lower-number list of names used in the French distribution, and to Veera Tha Menninkäinen, Joline Oleksiw, Sarah Johnson, Sue, Carla, and Lynn Ewald for many updates on European and specialty cards! And Malcolm Guy reports that some of the European come- with-the-puppy cards were printed with different color backgrounds, which makes the card collecting even more challenging (thanks!). We don't always know the numbers that are assigned to the puppy's attributes, and when they are known to be different on different cards, I show it. That makes them different puppies, doesn't it?
